I've been doing a lot of hiking in Israel. I'm probably in the best shape of my life right now. With the notable exception of my left leg.
On my way down from Massada I somehow screwed up my quad. I don't know if I pulled it or tore it or what, but it suddenly went all prickly on me. I didn't think too much about it at the time, but in the next two days of hiking it flared up a couple times, and then it reacted rather badly to carrying my big pack around on the third day. Now it seems to object to even short walks, particularly up- and downhill.
This is a bit of a problem, because I was planning to do a lot of hiking - in the hills of Galilee, with a heavy pack - in the next few weeks. I was also hoping to work on another farm for a bit, and see a lot of sites around Bethlehem and Jerusalem on foot. If I can't walk much, there's not much I can do.
The nurse I happened to meet today advised six weeks of rest. Well, I'm only in Israel for six more weeks, so that's not happening. My current plan is to try to take it easy for my two weeks in Bethlehem, ditch some of my heavy gear, and delay my Galilee hike as long as possible. And maybe I'll get a cane.
Anyway if you're the praying type, I would appreciate your intercession.
Try to warm up your leg before hiking (stretching, rubbing it, or whatever). It will hurt less and work better if it's stiff.
ReplyDeleteI'll also ask God to fix it.
